Basically you go to ninite.com and if you scroll down you will see a box that says classic start which is under utilities. Once downloaded you can change the look of the start menu by right clicking the start button. You can even change it so that the Windows boots to the desktop instead on the metro UI (the tile desktop screen).

i agree with xil since there are alot of games still not compatible with windows 8. my windows vista was busted so i upgraded to 7.
